StudMeasure.shop – Return & Warranty Policy

At StudMeasure.shop, we design products that make building more fun, accurate, and creative. Our Stud Measure™ is intended for more mature builders who are able to use tools safely and responsibly.  We want every customer to enjoy their tools for a long time, so we’re clear and upfront about what is—and isn’t—covered under our policy.

Returns & Refunds

We do not accept returns or issue refunds for products, new, opened or used. Because our items are mechanical measuring tools, they can be affected by handling, over-extension, or accidental damage—conditions that fall outside our quality guarantee.

Quality Guarantee (What Is Covered)

If a product arrives with a clear manufacturing defect—something that prevents it from functioning right out of the box—please contact us within 7 days of delivery. We’ll review the issue and work with you to make it right.

Use-Related or Accidental Damage (Not Covered)

The following situations are not considered manufacturing defects and are not eligible for replacement or refund:

  • Tape measures pulled beyond their designed stopping point

  • Internal spring damage due to over-extension

  • Tape not retracting after being fully pulled out

  • Damage caused by dropping, twisting, or forcing moving parts

  • The end clip breaking or detaching from the tape due to pulling or twisting.  The end clip is frequency welded and has no glue. It has been vigorously tested for pull/release strength.

  • Wear-and-tear from normal use

Retractable tape mechanisms must stay within their functional range. If pulled past that range—even once—the internal spring can detach or lose tension. This is classified as accidental damage.

We aim to provide durable products, however mechanical components cannot be warrantied against misuse.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My child pulled the tape measure all the way out and it won’t retract. Is this a defect?

No. Pulling the tape past its functional limit causes the internal spring to detach, which is considered use-related damage. This is not covered under our policy.

Q: The tape won’t rewind unless I shake or push it. Can I return it?

This typically means the tape was extended too far or retracted under stress. These are signs of mechanical strain, not a manufacturing defect. Returns or refunds cannot be offered in these cases.

Q: The product broke during first use. Does that qualify for a refund?

First-use breakage can still be accidental damage—especially if the tape was pulled to its maximum extension or past its stop point. Only defects present before the product is used are covered.

Q: Do you offer replacements for accidental damage?

We do not replace items damaged through use. However, we’re always happy to help troubleshoot and may provide tips to avoid future issues.

Q: What if the item arrived damaged in shipping?

If your order was damaged during transit, contact us within 7 days with photos of the packaging and product. We will help resolve shipping-related issues separately from product-use issues.
